The Michels began cultivated vines in pretty hamlet of Cray in 1850.
Following in his father Marcel’s footsteps, René decided in 1970 to
bottle their own wines (rather than selling grape must), anxious to make
the most of the qualities of this unique terroir. Today, René’s sons Denis,
Franck and Vincent cultivate with the same sense of tradition and
demand for quality, transmitted by their father and grandfather before.
The ‘Quintane’ cuvée is produced from about 3 hectares of 52yo
Chardonnay vines, located on the Quintaine hillside in Clessé, on claylimestone
marl soils, on one of the best plots in Clessé. The AOC
changed from Mâcon-Clessé to Vire-Clessé in 1998.
