The Bizet family has cultivated vineyards in Sancerre for generations. They live close to the land, with an encyclopaedic understanding of the soil, their vines, and the surrounding ecosystem. Current wine-maker Thibault, studied oenology at the prestigious institute in nearby Pouilly. After progressing through the academic part of the program, Thibault worked at wineries in Burgundy, Bordeaux, and Languedoc. It was at this time his father passed and he was thrown into running the business. His first actions were to lower yields and cut back on the use of chemicals. Results from Thibault’s stewardship began to show very quickly. A cooperative purchasing from Domaine Bizet was so impressed by the quality, balance, and complexity of his first harvest that they asked him to create a special bottling of the wine. This was virtually unprecedented. It also marked a turning point. They decided to actively market their fantastic wines to Sancerre lovers around the world. They received 3 stars from France’s prestigious Hachette Guide—the very highest honour – and won the gold medal at the 2013 Concours Mondial du Sauvignon.
