Description
Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe has been run by the Brunier family for five generations, and since 1891. The estate’s vineyards are situated on the famous “Plateau de la Crau” the stony terrace where there is nothing but “galets roulés”, or rounded stones, as far as the eye can see. This special terroir imparts a highly distinctive minerality to the wines.
Vieux Télégraphe Châteauneuf-du-Pape is made from predominantly three grape varieties, Grenache (65%), Syrah (15%) and Mourvèdre (15%), with Cinsault, Clairette and sundry others making up the final 5%. The vines are on average 70 years old and are planted on the celebrated Plateau de la Crau, a site renowned from grape growing in Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
This terroir imparts a distinctive minerality to the wines. Once at their state-of-the-art gravity flow winery, the grapes are partially destemmed and are fermented in both stainless steel and wood cuves. Matured in large Frenck oak foudres for up to 22 months the wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered and then released after a further 2 years in bottle.
Intense colour, tremendous concentration, complexity and velvety smooth flavours are the hallmarks of Vieux Télégraphe and the best vintages will age for 20 years and more.
