To say that finding ethically made wine in Bordeaux can be a struggle would be an understatement. For years this region has been about mega expensive growths and unimaginative, identikit wines at the value end.
Franc-Cardinal bucks that trend, being fully organically grown, with no pesticides or herbicides, whilst still operating at the business end of Bordeaux, from a relatively newly formed appellation, ‘Francs Cotes de Bordeaux’. The wine is made from three distinct vineyard plots, where Merlot is in the dominancy, the rest comprising Cabernet Franc and a touch of Malbec.
The result is a lovely, plush and soft wine with elegant tannins that can age for a period that belies its modest price tag.
