Description

Comfortably hidden in the foothills of Jura between Lyon and Geneva, the tiny medieval village of Merignat is home to the Renardat-Faches and to this magical pink fizz. The family has been cultivating the vineyards here for more than eight generations. The vineyards themselves have been part of the village since the Middle Ages. After WWII, Léon Renardat-Fache together with a few other winemakers, developed the vinification process “Méthode ancestrale” to produce the natural sparkling wine Cerdon and in 1958 this wine obtained the “Appellation d’Origine Vins Délimités de Qualité Supérieure Bugey”. In 1974 Alain, Léon’s son, returned to the domain after his studies in Beaune. With his wife Mirelle, they developed the family domain and refined the vinification technique by introducing the first insulated, temperature controlled tanks. 2008 saw start of the conversion to organic (completed in 2012) and in 2009, Bugey Cerdon obtained the AOC label in recognition of our wine making expertise and tradition
